Scouts Scotland is recruiting an Outdoor & Adventure Development Manager to manage its Fordell Firs activity centre. 

About us

Across generations, Scouting has proved a powerful force for good, bringing communities together and contributing to society. But it always had one aim above all others: to prepare young people for the future.

Central to our programme are opportunities for outdoor learning and adventure. We believe that outdoor learning, adventurous experiences and residential programmes are essential to give young people opportunities to develop key capacities, such as confidence and resilience, as well as learn new skills, achieve relevant qualifications or simply develop a love for the Scottish outdoors.

The role

Much of our outdoor learning and adventure programme is delivered under our Scout Adventures brand. As part of a UK network, we currently operate three Scout Adventure centres that deliver outdoor learning, adventurous experiences and residential programmes to both our own members and a range of partners, including schools and other youth charities. Our centres also offer training, advice and support to our amazing adult leaders and we are increasingly delivering training to teachers.

Overseeing the day-to-day operations of an experienced team, the Outdoor & Adventure Development Manager will:

  • Expand our offer to members (both our young people and adult leaders) and the education sector through the development of new products and training programmes, and grow our business to enable us to support more young people and adult leaders;
  • Further develop our site and accommodation to ensure we offer a great guest experience and are seen as an exemplary site;
  • Ensure our activities are delivered to the required safety and quality standards.

As a member of the Scout Adventures Scotland management team, this role will also have a wider brief supporting development work across all three of our centres, as well as Scouts Scotland, and its 50,000 members, more generally. This work will be guided and driven by the new Scout Adventures Scotland operational plan, which will be developed and implemented in early 2018.

Stemming from the new Scouts Scotland strategy, the Scout Adventures Scotland operational plan will set out the key aims and objectives for the development and growth of our outdoor and adventure programme, delivered both through our centres and beyond. The Outdoor & Adventure Development Manager will help to shape this plan and will play a key role in helping to deliver it.

This is an exciting stage in our progress and we are seeking someone with the knowledge and enthusiasm to help us shape our plans.
