UPDATE: Blair Atholl Jamborette

Following extensive conversations between the Blair Atholl Jamborette and Scouts Scotland, the incredibly difficult decision has been made to cancel the 37th Scottish International Patrol Jamborette which was due to be held in Blair Atholl this Summer.
We know this will be extremely disappointing news, but given the current and evolving situation with Covid-19 (coronavirus) and the government’s advice around large events and social distancing, we feel that we have no choice but to take this decision. The health and safety of Scout members and the wider community must be our priority.
The Blair Atholl Jamborette has been running every second year since 1946. We’re devastated to have to cancel this year’s event, but we believe it is the only responsible decision to take.
I’m sure you’ll have lots of questions, so I’ve tried to pull together some FAQs below – but please do email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have a question that hasn’t been covered below.
Why are you cancelling now, things might be back to normal by July?
We hope they are, but we simply can’t take the chance. Under normal circumstances, the time between now and July would be used for training of young people for two weeks at camp and extensive preparations by leaders. These would all be disrupted or cancelled completely, putting safe preparation at risk.
In addition, we would very shortly need to make significant financial commitments that we could not recover if the event was cancelled nearer the time, and so unfortunately, we have to take the decision now. We also want to give you as much notice as possible.
Can I get my money back?
At the time of payment it was noted that deposits would not be refundable. However, as we have acted quickly, we believe that we will be able to refund part of your deposit. We don’t know quite how much it will be right now, but we will be in touch with you as soon as we can to let you know.
Any final balances that have been paid will be refunded in full. Unfortunately, we cannot help you with any other costs that you have incurred for the camp.
Will Blair run next year?
Unfortunately not. The planning and organisation of a camp the size and nature of Blair Atholl is such that to run an event in 2021 and 2022 (to return to a cycle which avoids World Jamboree years) would not be possible for the volunteer team who put a tremendous amount of effort into the Jamborette.
We will be looking ahead to 2022 to make sure the Blair Atholl Jamborette comes back stronger than ever.
Could Blair Atholl 2022 expand the age range for the Jamborette to allow over 18s to attend as participants?
Unfortunately Scout rules are very clear with regards to having under 18s camping with over 18s and we currently have no plans to review the age range for participants for future events. If you will be over 18 for the 2022 camp, please do consider coming along as staff.
