New Commissioner appointments
We are delighted to appoint two new Commissioners to the Scouts Scotland team.
Gary Ward has been appointed to the new role of Scotland Commissioner (Growth) and Owen Forrest will take on the role of Scotland Commissioner (Beavers).
Scotland Commissioner (Growth)
As Scotland Commissioner (Growth), Gary will provide support and direction for all aspects of Growth in Scotland and to support Regions, Districts and local volunteers with opportunities to grow.
Gary has been volunteering for Scouts since 2012 and is the Group Scout Leader for the 112th Lanarkshire Scout Group, where he began volunteering as a Beaver Scout Leader.
Gary has also been a Local Development Officer for Scouts Scotland, working within West and Forth Regions, supporting Districts and Groups to grow, specifically focussing on creating new provisions in under-represented communities.
“I am looking forward to connecting with local volunteers from across Scotland to discover their views on what Growth should look like for them in their local Groups, Districts and Regions,” says Gary.
“I am excited to begin supporting our amazing volunteers to further develop and grow Scouting in their areas and to learn the best ways to ensure all young people, regardless of their backgrounds, can access Scouts and learn skills for life.”
Scotland Commissioner (Beavers)
Owen’s role as Scotland Commissioner for Beavers is to support and develop the Beaver Scout section across Scotland. As part of the programme team, Owen will work with the other Section Commissioners to help deliver Skills for Life through a quality balanced programme across the Sections.
Owen first became involved in Scouts as a Beaver Scout at six years old, returning to the Section as a Young Leader. Since then he’s been an Assistant Beaver Leader, Beaver Scout Leader, and Assistant District Commissioner for Beavers.
He says: “I am delighted to be taking on the role of Scotland Commissioner for Beavers. Beavers is an incredible part of the Scouting journey and is the first experience of Scouting for many of our young people. I hope to support all of our young people and adults working with the Section to help make it the best it can possibly be."
