Keep Scotland Beautiful!

Join us in the Big Summer Clean and help Keep Scotland Beautiful

We're so excited to let you know that we've teamed up with Keep Scotland Beautiful to help with their Big Summer Clean, and we think that across Scotland we could help to clear around 10,000 miles of litter! That might sound like a lot, but works out at about 10,000 Scouts pledging to do 20 minutes of litter picking in May and June.

We know that lots of you already take part in litter picking as part of your programme and to help your community and local environment, so we aren’t asking you to do anything different, just to log your litter pick on the Keep Scotland Beautiful Website. That way we can measure the collective impact that we have made in Scotland.

You can register your group here. Check out some hints and tips below that will help you along the way!

Hints and Tips

Keep Scotland Beautiful have lots of tips and ways to help spread the message about any litter picking that you're doing. Find it here.

Make sure that your activities meet the current COVID guidance issued by Scouts Scotland.

If you're looking for equipment – Helping Hand Environmental offer a reduced rate for community groups, which you can find here

Or, Sustrans Scotland can provide equipment for litter picks that take place on the National Cycle Network. Find out more here.

Could you take your litter pick one step further and sort the litter into different categories for recycling?

Get involved with citizen science and collate a survey of the different types of litter that appear in your neighbourhood.

Link to the programme – you could do your litter pick as part of a Hike Away, but it can also count as part of the Environmental Conservation Badge and Community Impact Staged Activity Badge.
