Join the World Scout Jamboree from Fordell Firs

How would you like to connect with Scouts at the World Scout Jamboree without leaving the country?

Scouts of all ages are being invited to come along with their Leaders to the Radio Shack at Scout Adventures Fordell Firs at set times to make contact with Scouts at the World Scout Jamboree.

The World Scout Jamboree will be running from 22 July to 1 August 2019 from the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia.

One of the many events at the Jamboree will be an Amateur Radio Station, call sign NA1WJ. This will be open for Scouts to make contacts worldwide and exchange greetings.

How it works

The Fordell Scout Active Support Unit will be setting up a special station at Fordell Firs, call sign GB0 FFS with the aim of making contact with the Scouts at the World Jamboree.

This operation at Fordell Firs will take place during the evenings from 7 pm – 11 pm between 22 July and 1 August.

There is no guarantee of making contacts with NA1WJ but the team will be prepared with operators and the best equipment and aerials possible. The operators in the USA know that we shall be on the air and listening out for each other.

How to get involved

The Fordell Scout Active Support Unit can accommodate small groups at short notice, but if you want to be sure of a place, then you should book ahead.

If you are interested, then all you need to do is to ask your Leader to register your interest at the email shown below, we can then finalise arrangements closer to the event.

Many of the Unit members have Scouting roles in the local area as well as being licensed radio amateurs, all are members of the Scout Association. The Fordell Scout Active Support Unit and has hosted Scout badge events and several Jamboree on the Air events in previous years.
