Guidance on notifiable incidents

28 February 2018

Recent media coverage about incidents in the charity sector has highlighted the importance of following robust safeguarding processes and reporting notifiable incidents to the Scottish charities regulator, OSCR.

Safeguarding

At Scouts Scotland, we can be confident but not complacent that Scouting has a robust process for the appointment of adults. All individuals working with our youth members and in trustee roles must hold a valid PVG certificate issued to Scouting and that all safeguarding concerns must be treated with urgency and in the correct manner as noted on our ‘yellow card.’

It would be good practice to make sure that all your leaders and trustees are aware of this on a regular basis.

Notifiable Incidents

It is also suggested that you make sure that the item of notifiable incidents is on the agenda of your next Executive meeting and that all trustees are aware of the attached paper which was issued from SHQ last year and is on our website and deals with such incidents.

OSCR guidance

OSCR has distributed an email reminding charities of the correct procedures for reporting notifiable incidents and emphasising the importance of creating a safe environment for the beneficiaries of the charity.
