Five after-dark activities you can do at Meggernie

Five after-dark activities you can do at Meggernie

25 October 2017

With the clocks going back this weekend, bringing us longer nights, we wanted to celebrate our favourite after-dark activities at Scout Adventures Meggernie.

Campfires

Who doesn’t love a good campfire? When it gets dark at Meggernie, it gets really dark, so a campfire under a winter sky can feel really magical. We have a great spot for our campfire circle, and you can finish your campfire by shouting into the darkness with our famous Meggernie Echo! While having fun at the camp circle, you can also tick off some requirements for the Outdoors Challenge Award.

Stargazing

The clear sky at Meggernie is perfect for stargazing, and in winter, you don’t have to stay up too late to identify constellations, if you’re camping with younger sections. You could even achieve some of the elements of the Astronomer Activity Badge and the Space Activity Badge, or the Science and Technology Activity Badge for Explorer Scouts.

Foxes Den

Our Foxes Den Bivvi is a special place to sleep. Wrap up warm, take a good sleeping bag, light a small fire, and snuggle down for the night under the stars.

Night walk

Exploring doesn’t need to stop when the sun sets. Go on a night expedition or for younger sections, take the nightline activity to the next level and do it in the dark, working with your friends to make it around the trail.

Hammocks

Have a go sleeping out all night in our hammocks. If you’re working through the Zodiac Award with your Scouts or Explorers, this could count as one of the challenges.

Book your winter camp

Winter doesn’t mean an end to outdoor adventure. Winter camps are great for adding new challenges, different experiences, and as preparation for your main summer camp.

Talk to us about winter camp availability.
