First Youth Approved Awards granted
We're delighted to announce that a total of 26 recipients of the Foundation Youth Approved Award have been agreed by the Scouts Scotland National Youth Advisory Group. This includes 23 sections, two regions and Scottish Headquarters.
The Youth Approved Award was launched earlier this year to encourage and celebrate youth involvement at all levels of Scouting in Scotland.
To achieve the Foundation level of Youth Approved, sections are required to:
Evidence good methods of communicating with young people
Demonstrate good use of peer-leadership opportunities
Hold regular forums for youth members to discuss and influence their programme.
Districts, Regions and Scottish Headquarters are required to have a Youth Advisory Group, to allow youth members to elect their Youth Commissioner (Chair of Advisory Group) and to evidence good methods of communicating with young people.
Recipients of the Foundation Youth Approved Award can now look to complete the requirements of the Bronze Youth Approved Award. Instructions on how to do this will be included with the Foundation certificates posted during April.
In due course, District Youth Advisory Groups will assess sections and Scout Groups. Regional Youth Advisory Groups and the National Youth Advisory Group will assess Districts and Regions respectively. However until more youth advisory groups are established, the National Youth Advisory Group will be involved in all award assessments.
