Blog | Help us pick the next SYP campaign

Earlier this year Gregor and Morven were elected to represent Scouts Scotland at the Scottish Youth Parliament. Now they’re asking you – our young people – to get involved in choosing the next Scottish Youth Parliament campaign.

We are the new Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament representing you, the Scouts in Scotland. So, how does this affect you? It means that you can come to us, as a young person (age 12 - 25) involved in Scouts, and tell us about issues that really matter to you.

Our job is to then present your views to the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) and do our best, along with the other MSYPs to make Scotland the best place in the world to be a young person.

Campaigns that make a difference

This is an amazing opportunity for Scouts to get involved in campaigns run by SYP.  These campaigns have changed Scotland for the better. For example the "Votes at 16" campaign to lower the voting age led to 16 and 17 year olds being able to vote in the 2014 Scottish Referendum and all Scottish Parliamentary elections.

The most recent campaign ‘All Aboard’ focuses on improving public transport for young people by encouraging companies to lower prices for young people, run more frequent buses and trains, as well as improving bus standards.

What next?

Currently, MSYPs across the country are asking their constituents one question - what should our next national campaign be?

There are five themes to choose from:

reintegrating young offenders

environmental protection

raising the National Minimum Wage

boosting youth work (including Scouts)

transport (continuing the All Aboard campaign)

Get involved

To be able to represent you we need to hear from you. If you are aged between 12 and 25 then you can take part in our survey to let us know which campaign we should support. It would be great if you can encourage anyone that you know aged 12-25 and involved in Scouts to take part. You can take our quick online survey or get in touch with us on Twitter.
