What makes

us unique?

As Scotland’s largest co-educational youth charity with more than 100 years of delivering outdoor learning for young people, we’re well placed to deliver high-quality and affordable outdoor adventure camps for schools, Scouts, and youth groups.

Our centres deliver a wide range of opportunities for fun and learning for children, young people and adults. However, we operate as part of a much larger, adventure-based organisation.

This means that we are able to offer sustainable impact. When a child or young person completes one of our residential programmes they can also access a cost-effective opportunity to continue benefitting from outdoor learning and adventure by joining Scouts.

We want children and young people to love challenges, to be intrigued by mistakes, to enjoy effort and to love learning. And we believe that adventure provides the perfect vehicle for this.

Graeme, Head of National Activity Centres

Brilliant Residentials

The Learning Away programme has provided independent evaluation of the impacts and benefits of a residential experience. Through working with 60 partner schools over a five-year period, the programme has identified what goes into making high-quality residential learning, and has coined the phrase ‘Brilliant Residentials’ to describe these experiences.  Brilliant Residentials are inclusive and affordable, high quality, led by teachers, fully integrated into the curriculum, and planned so that learning is embedded and reinforced back in school. They provide extremely powerful learning opportunities for young people of all ages and abilities, as well as having an impact on teachers and schools as a whole. Our National Activity Centres offer all of this and more.
